Neighborhoods blend homes and businesses to make it possible to be completely local and support local.
Concrete and metal, common in Morocco, are materials that show age quite quickly. One might mistake the image of a neighborhood to be dicrepid and run down, whereas truly it has rustic character and grit, capturing color and stories that make communities deeply rooted in connections.
It’s about seeing the beauty in the richness of culture and environment. In America, we work so hard to make life appear pristine, even if it’s not. In Morocco, it’s about taking that time to connect with each other. Judgement is not necessary.

Bottoms of homes are often shops:
The pictures you captured of the neighborhood are absolutely beautiful. The rustic characteristics of the buildings and the idea of staying and supporting local is one that we can learn from as a society in the U.S.. Many of our neighborhoods are judged based on the appearance of their home, buildings, and communities. The Fairview neighborhood looks markedly different from the Bayshore neighborhood, yet it is just as rich and beautiful with itβs culturally diverse population. Beautiful pictures that remind us that you canβt always judge a book by itβs cover.
Is your house Hot insideπ±
Actually the breeze here keeps it quite mild. I was glad to have brought a jacket! It can get cold at night. It has been between 60-75 degree during the day though, which is much like Alaskan summer days.
Do they have technology like ours?
In schools, actually no. You will see that we mostly wrote on the chalkboard. The Ministry of Education passed an initiative to have a computer lab at every school, but not every school has access to wifi either. Technology is a great need in my opinion, but most students do have technology (phones) and there are some whole towns that have free wifi for access. Connecting via the internet has been the biggest challenge for me and I take for granted how much access we have with smart boards and high speed internet.
Are they all nice at Morocco?π
So, SO, so, nice and the students were so eager to learn about Alaska. We even got a presentation by students on their hospitality and how welcoming they are, which is so true. They like to give gifts and are very courteous to each other. “Salaam-Alaikum”, which is the main greeting even means “peace be upon you”. The crime rates are low, the people peaceful, and the whole culture so rich. It was great to experience first hand.

Are there any Tropical fruit in morocco π
Lots of oranges and fresh squeezed orange juice
Do they play soccer?
Yes, lots of it! On the beach, at the school, in the park. Lots of soccer
Soccer is my favorite sport.
Well this is the place to see it happen. I have seen a lot of soccer games in the park, in he streets, in the fields, on the beach. Soccer, or football as it is called here, is a love for many.
